Our new book is picked! First let me apologize for not blogging about last month’s book : Unaccustomed Earth… Which by the way made it onto our Best of list on our webpage. You can find that information at www.dineandopine.com

I am excited for the newest book and can’t wait to hear everyone’s thoughts!

ok- so I am still waiting on my book!!! It better get here before the weekend… how is everyone else doing? How is the book? Is anyone reading these blogs or is it just me out here all by myself? Why am I asking a blog five thousand questions? Oh wait… because it doesn’t talk back …. unless someone else blogs….

Well, aren’t you fiesty today? Yes, I am reading. Yes, I am blogging. I’m almost 200 pages in (although, I’m not sure anyone else is reading). It’s entertaining … actually, I think I’ll go do some reading right now.

  • Karie

well yes… I am a little Fiesty today. I can;t help it. Nicholas is sick and having a kids with a 103 temp hang on you wears you out… as I am sure that you can understand! I am glad that you are enjoying the book. that makes me excited!

  • Annie

I hope Nicholas is feeling better (as much for your sake as his).

I have good news for Jill, there are discussion questions in the back of the book …

I finished the book last weekend!! For those of you who haven’t started it yet we still have four days til book club. It’s a quick read. I’m so not a circus fan so for me it was a little hard to make a connection with the characters but overall not so bad. Annie-what circus food do we get to eat later this week??

I am glad that you claim it is a quick read… I ordered my book the day after our last meeting and it has yet to arrive. So then I went to the library today (THE MAIN library)… and OHHHH they do not have it. WTF???? I should have picked up annie’s copy. I am going to the mall tonight and if I do not see the book on my porch today I am just going to BUY the damn thing. UGH!

On a positive note- can’t wait to find out where we are meeting. I’m hungry… I mean seriously I am hunger- perhaps that is why I have a short fuse….. Going to eat!

    A recap by Jill:

Another great evening had by all last night at Tavern on the Tracks. Water for Elephants received thumbs up all around. We definitely have some closet animal rights activists in the club. I Brake for Squirrels! Food at Tavern was divided…if it looks like a bar and smells like a bar probably should eat bar food! All fried items were super yummy; fried portobello mushrooms, french fries, fried calamari, chips, toasted ravioli. All more advanced menu items, pretty mediocre. We did love the tracks part of the book theme though but decided red lighting was not on our list of things to do before we die! I almost forgot…Margot we hate you missed last night because we really needed you for one of the most important discussion questions (of course we missed you just missed you too!) but supposedly the author says the story of Jacob in the book parallels the story of Jacob in the book of Genesis in the Bible and although there were seven in attendance, not a single one of us heathens could recall the story of Jacob in the Bible! If you would like to enlighten us…

It was a sad night in the dessert world. Our discussion of dessert paired with our scenic walk to the Greek Isle made us four minutes past closing and doors were locked, although Shobha was willing to blend in with guests on patio for a stealth attack. Majority decided against that so next stop was the Apostrophe which Annie had heard good things about. Upon actual inspection we found it is not really our kind of place. Third time’s a charm, maybe. We hit the Sunset Club and although no dessert or danceable music we did have a night cap and I was home in time to stay on schedule-wink wink!

Meera provided five book choices and even with Suhanthi and I trying to break the rules and (unsuccessfully) overturn the vote we have chosen The Piano Teacher by Janice Y.K. Lee. I’m only hoping it’s a sleeper pick like Bel Canto!

    Ok ladies,
I finished the book.. and I must say that I truly enjoyed the book! There are so many thoughts that I have now remembering the conversation on the book… but our discussion is over.. BOO not receiving the book in time (Actually I never received the book. Thank You Annie for letting me borrow it!!!)

Great news- The newest book The Piano Teacher has arrived and I am ready to dive into the new book. Although I am still sad that I will not be joining the group for the Bookclub weekend… and I will once again have to miss a discussion…. Perhaps we could Skype?? LOL!!!
